San Francisco to Venice SFO-VCE Delta Air Lines Mega Mileage Run Orbitz

No, this is not a true Mileage Run; the costs per mile (CPM) of 5.5 cents makes it a bit too high to be considered that this early in the year.  What is great about this fare, and why I am posting it is to let you in on a great fare price to Venice this summer!  Europe is always an expensive ticket, particularly from the West Coast.  But here is a $742 fare in the middle of July; a great time to visit Venice in the summer sunshine!

I absolutely love Venice and the opportunity to get Delta Medallion Qualification Miles 1:1 on this route makes a vacation trip there all the more enticing. It is a wonderful walking city and although prices may be bit high for food and lodging it will be a memorable trip. Make sure you head east of the city one afternoon, perhaps Murano on another island in the lagoon and dine where you can observe the sun setting over the skyline of Venice…guaranteed to be one of top travel memories!

Delta will not book this out for less than $1,900. I have tried a lot of tricks.  But you can use my link (provided below) and book it through KLM for the shown fare above and then credit your Delta SkyMiles number to the ticket and you’ll be earning Delta MQM’s for the flight.  If you are unsure of how you will be treated on another carrier, you should read this recent post by Noah and how he felt he got better perks in international airports with his SkyTeam Elite status!

Plus, let’s confirm those MQM earnings for you here:

Earning Delta Mileage with KLM Chart

Now, I found dates all over the month of July for varying stay lengths.

You will not get full redeemable miles, but you will get a percentage of the miles flown (not tied to your fare price) and in many cases you will come out better than if you were earning according  to the price you paid.  Anyway, it’s Venice folks! In the summer time!

Also, you cannot use any Global Upgrade Certificates on this route as KLM metal need to be YBM+ fare class.

Since this is not a Mileage Run, per se, I will not go into all the details about the quickest turnaround.  Take this flight and reward yourself (and perhaps another travel companion)

Anyway here are the numbers:

The Details:

EQM’s:     13,481 (MQM’s) $742 and 13481MQMs at 5.5CPM

RDM’s:     3,371 at the lowest range for a qualified fare

Ticket Price:  $742

Cost:   5.5 Cents Per Mile (CPM) – a great summer fare

This link books through Orbitz  – DIRECT BOOKING LINK

I like this trip since it is after Delta’s change on Comfort+ booking policies.  So, you are circumventing those rules by traveling internationally on their partner, KLM and you can still get preferred seats together with your travel companion.

Although I research to find great Mileage Run deals, this European gem of a deal I could not help but share with you. I do hope you will take advantage if this…if anyone has experience on KLM to Venice, feel free to comment below; we would love to hear your voice and insights. Still, I firmly believe we will see a lot more fare attacks south of the border and to Asia in the coming months.

Thank you for visiting and following us, hopefully throughout 2016 here at Renes Points and Elite Mileage Runs  Best Wishes and Happy Travels. Enjoy your travels!  – John @laptoptravel

A San Francisco to Milan Italy Delta Mileage Run Calendar

B San Francisco to Milan Italy Delta Mileage Run

So, I am posting this I wanted to refine this amazing deal to make it even better for Mileage Runs.  GO it alone, or take a companion.  It seems that Delta is not blocking any holiday dates, as you can see by the calendar I placed above.

My search was for 1-4 nights, but it looks like you can stay even longer at the same prices.

So, to maximize your MQM’s you should put LAX (or in some cases SEA) in either the outbound or the return route.  However, Delta’s online booking system is not liking those ‘enhancements.” I did get the one shown to price out at Delta.  So let us assume you can do no better (although you should keep trying; maybe you will get lucky.)

I picked a departure of Thursday, February 11th as my target, staying over the holiday weekend in Italy and returning Monday, February 15th.  With a morning departure you arrive early morning the next day (in this case Friday) and a morning departure from Milan and still get back in to San Francisco the same evening.

There is the Italian rail system (Italo) which has a depot in the Milan airport, so you can use that to get to a lot of places in Italy (and Europe) within a reasonable amount of time and cost.  The EurRail system is also there. My wife and I just did a similar run. We landed in Milan and got the first train out to Southern Italy. By the way, if you are looking for a Greece run from the East Coast CHECK HERE

Have fun playing with your dates and the many, many possibilities! There are wide-open dates January, February and early March!

The Details:

MQM’s: 13,120 Medallion® Qualification Miles (MQM’s)

Ticket Price: $467

CPM: 3.5 Cents Per Mile (CPM)

LGA-ATH (Dec 2016)_RouteMap

MAX Routing: LGA-ATL-CDG-ATH-CDG-BOS-LGA

LGA-ATH (Dec 2016)_Delta

LGA-ATH (Dec 2016)_Delta

LGA-ATH (Dec 2016)_Kayak

ALERT! FOR MAX MQMS ATL BOTH WAYS!

Delta is having their own Latin & South America Sale.  Good for them – we can do BETTER! We post the best deals and cheaper Mileage Runs than Delta will ever give you as their “Special Sales”.

Here is a great deal to Athens, Greece! That’s right, the birth of the Olympics, Athens, the home of The Acropolis and so much more! Athens averages 56°F in December, so for many of you in the north that’s a big improvement.  I found this sweet itinerary for you.

I know many of you are in a panic of how to get enough Delta MQM’s before the year ends. There are only a few days left; REALLY! And you know you do not want to be fighting the crowds at the end of the year. Looking at some of the seatmaps, I think you will do better going across the Atlantic than you would facing the domestic crowds on holiday travel and Mileage Runs!

I am putting this out there as the CPM cost (5.9) is really good for Europe around the Holidays. It is relatively easy for most Delta flyers to re-position to New York to take advantage of a whole lot of Medallion Qualification Miles (MQM’s).

The US Dollar is strong in Greece, and they operate on the Euro, which at the time of this posting was 1 Euro to 1.06 US Dollars. Or, 1 US Dollar is worth .95 Euros.  This is historically a great bargain and the US Dollar is up 18% over the same time a year ago.

As a weekend +1 day (Monday) run, it is very reasonable at 5.9 Cents Per Mile (CPM)

US passengers visiting Greece are required to have a US Passport. No Visa is required. This destination is definitely in my sights in the near future!

There are very few dates open in December for this run, although the cheapest date is departing La Guardia (LGA) Saturday, December 5th, arrive Athens (ATH) on Sunday evening have a night stopover before departing for your return on Monday morning, December 7th and arrive back in New York (LGA) that same evening.

  • Something to Remember: This is a “Pay With Miles” Eligible Flight,
  • So You Could ‘Buy Down’ the Cost of the Fare with SkyMiles
  • A total of six segments, here is your routing: LGA-ATL-CDG-ATH-CDG-BOS-LGA

The Details:

MQM’s:  12,920 Medallion® Qualification Miles (MQM’s)

Ticket Price:  $764

CPM:   5.9  Cents Per Mile (CPM)
