Tuesday, February 9, 2016  by John @laptoptravel Quick Note:  I am posting this a a guest article on behalf of René, who is a bit under the weather. Hope you get better soon, buddy! Once upon a time, the backbone and foundation of the points and miles landscape was the ‘game’ know as Mileage Runs, or mileage running.  Personally, I have been doing that for a number of years but only recently has it made it to the ‘big leagues’ and the forefront of a lot of loyal elite members’ minds. What is a Mileage Run? Following the September 11th attacks, airlines saw their passenger counts fall dramatically; it was a scary time for both travelers and airlines. It was not just limited to air travel, but included trains and cruise ships as well.  The airlines quickly took evasive action; parking airplanes in the desert near Tucson (more specifically, the Davis-Monthan Air…

Thursday, February 4, 2016 by John @laptoptravel No, this is not a true Mileage Run; the costs per mile (CPM) of 5.5 cents makes it a bit too high to be considered that this early in the year.  What is great about this fare, and why I am posting it is to let you in on a great fare price to Venice this summer!  Europe is always an expensive ticket, particularly from the West Coast.  But here is a $742 fare in the middle of July; a great time to visit Venice in the summer sunshine! I absolutely love Venice and the opportunity to get Delta Medallion Qualification Miles 1:1 on this route makes a vacation trip there all the more enticing. It is a wonderful walking city and although prices may be bit high for food and lodging it will be a memorable trip. Make sure you head east of…

Saturday, January 23, 2016 by John @laptoptravel This Dallas to West Coast USA Mileage Run deal just continues along.  We have found (and flown) many in the past few months.  Now here is a chance to work it San Diego, the southernmost airport in California for Delta and therefore the one that gets you the most Medallion Qualification Miles (MQM’s) for your flying dollars. As you can see from the calendars and flight schedules I have posted you have a lot of options!  The easiest way to book this is to use the Delta Multi-City Booking Tool. I included an image of that above and you might want to click on it to see just how I forced Delta to give me the flights connecting through Detroit (DTW).  Otherwise, Delta will either take you through Salt Lake City (SLC) or through Los Angeles (LAX) and as you…

Wednesday, January 6, 2016 by John @laptoptravel Here is a quick Mileage Run on Delta Air Lines.  You can do a weekday or weekend run.  The weekend run allows you to depart after work Friday night, and arrive in New York Saturday morning.  From there you can turn around in about two hours or stay a couple more hours (perhaps visit the JFK SkyClub…take a shower grab some breakfast.) If you choose a mid-week schedule you can actually stay most of the day in New York and catch an early evening return flight to Phoenix. For the maximum Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) you have to select routes that include Los Angeles (LAX) as a connection in both directions.  Doing this raises your MQMs to 5,950.  This is a “Pay With Miles” eligible flight so you can “buy down” the fare with your available SkyMiles.  If you…
