Some Options Each Day for Different Connection Times (SkyClub Time?)

This Dallas to West Coast USA Mileage Run deal just continues along.  We have found (and flown) many in the past few months.  Now here is a chance to work it San Diego, the southernmost airport in California for Delta and therefore the one that gets you the most Medallion Qualification Miles (MQM’s) for your flying dollars.

As you can see from the calendars and flight schedules I have posted you have a lot of options!  The easiest way to book this is to use the Delta Multi-City Booking Tool. I included an image of that above and you might want to click on it to see just how I forced Delta to give me the flights connecting through Detroit (DTW).  Otherwise, Delta will either take you through Salt Lake City (SLC) or through Los Angeles (LAX) and as you can see from my posted RouteMap above that just won’y give you the maximum MQM’s!

So, further to make this exciting, I took a look at the seatmaps. This is something I always do before booking a Mileage Run just to see how many First Class and Comfort+ seats have been taken (oh, don’t get me started on the Comfort+ fiasco about to happen on May 16th) .

Take a look at the SeatMaps for the flights I have chosen (March 8th out at 3:18pm) and first flight back into Dallas at 9:27am

Now, honestly, how many other sites look at SeatMaps ahead of time for its readers?

So it is a late afternoon flight (in my example) and an overnight return.  You can leave early and spend more time in a Detroit or San Diego SkyClub, but remember on your return the Detroit SkyClubs might likely be closed; so choose wisely.

Anyway here are the numbers:

The Details:

We hope you enjoy this great find!

Thank you for visiting and following us, hopefully throughout 2016 here at Renes Points and Elite Mileage Runs

Best Wishes and Happy Travels!  Let us know if you go and get a First Class Upgrade!

Here is a quick Mileage Run on Delta Air Lines.  You can do a weekday or weekend run.  The weekend run allows you to depart after work Friday night, and arrive in New York Saturday morning.  From there you can turn around in about two hours or stay a couple more hours (perhaps visit the JFK SkyClub…take a shower grab some breakfast.)

If you choose a mid-week schedule you can actually stay most of the day in New York and catch an early evening return flight to Phoenix.

For the maximum Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) you have to select routes that include Los Angeles (LAX) as a connection in both directions.  Doing this raises your MQMs to 5,950.  This is a “Pay With Miles” eligible flight so you can “buy down” the fare with your available SkyMiles.  If you do you will reduce the number of redeemable miles, but you will still get full MQM credit.

You can see by the calendar posted above that there are many dates available for this fare. The calendar only displays the flights that have a zero-night component to them; although there may be an overnight flight you do not have an overnight “layover” requiring a hotel or anything.

The Details:

MQM’s:             5,950 Medallion Qualification Miles (MQM’s)

Ticket Price:  $247

Cost:                  4.1 Cents Per Mile (CPM)

A San Francisco to Milan Italy Delta Mileage Run Calendar

B San Francisco to Milan Italy Delta Mileage Run

So, I am posting this I wanted to refine this amazing deal to make it even better for Mileage Runs.  GO it alone, or take a companion.  It seems that Delta is not blocking any holiday dates, as you can see by the calendar I placed above.

My search was for 1-4 nights, but it looks like you can stay even longer at the same prices.

So, to maximize your MQM’s you should put LAX (or in some cases SEA) in either the outbound or the return route.  However, Delta’s online booking system is not liking those ‘enhancements.” I did get the one shown to price out at Delta.  So let us assume you can do no better (although you should keep trying; maybe you will get lucky.)

I picked a departure of Thursday, February 11th as my target, staying over the holiday weekend in Italy and returning Monday, February 15th.  With a morning departure you arrive early morning the next day (in this case Friday) and a morning departure from Milan and still get back in to San Francisco the same evening.

There is the Italian rail system (Italo) which has a depot in the Milan airport, so you can use that to get to a lot of places in Italy (and Europe) within a reasonable amount of time and cost.  The EurRail system is also there. My wife and I just did a similar run. We landed in Milan and got the first train out to Southern Italy. By the way, if you are looking for a Greece run from the East Coast CHECK HERE

Have fun playing with your dates and the many, many possibilities! There are wide-open dates January, February and early March!

The Details:

MQM’s: 13,120 Medallion® Qualification Miles (MQM’s)

Ticket Price: $467

CPM: 3.5 Cents Per Mile (CPM)

(A big HT to TheFlightDeal) I am tweaking their original fare find for us Mileage Runners! I hope you enjoy what I am offering here and the timing is perfect if you want to enjoy Europe for some low prices! – If you really want the MQM’s and you can afford a single weekend to get them in, here is a way to get a bunch!– John @laptoptravel
