Mikey who says: “can delta miles be used to fly the deceased mileage owner back to his home for burial?”

Congratulations Mikey this week’s SWAG Saturday winner. Be sure to check back next week as I have a Skyclub pass and some drink coupons up for grabs!

Mikey you ask a morbid but good question and I think you know the answer is NO WAY since the account would be closed immediately upon the death of the member. My question is, say a Skymiles member dies and has say a few trips booked with family. Will Delta also cancel those tickets too since the account is now closed? (sorry Billy but since Granddad died, you don’t get to go to Disney since Delta took the tickets back!)?!?

It was interesting to see of the almost 200 comments, a vast majority are upset about the new 100% DEATH TAX from Delta. I too think it is shameless and totally wrong and reprehensible by our airline. Next, many are upset about MQD’s but they are here to stay. Plus, with any DELTA AMEX and $25k spend, not so hard with Vanilla and other ways, we can work around that one. Another thing people are upset about like Delta taking Award Wallet access away I think also stinks. Maybe Delta can work it so they get some cash from AW and then all will work again?

Thanks all for the input and have a great rest of the weekend – René

  1. Rene’, I don’t understand the “death tax” ruckus. If you are responsible, and make a “digital will” (all your usernames & passwords), your Skymiles account can be used after your death & the problem is solved. I did it after my father died and it worked fine (booked award tickets for my mother out of his account).

    • @Mark – unless Delta catches you, and mid flight, cancels your award trip. They can do that 100%. Please read the rules. See?

  2. Who tells Delta a member is dead?

and thanks for the amazom credit, they will be used wisely for kindle books to read during my san/bkk/san trip ( using delta miles too)
