skybonus earning from delta private jet card

A few years ago, this would have been “smashingly good news” as our friends across the pond might say (and if you have a Delta PVT jet card I bet you say phrases like that). Today, however, this announcement is only really good news for big spenders at Delta as you now get even more Skybonus points.

In a nutshell, as I know your time is valuable, you are earning a big chunk of Skybonus points at the time of “deposit” since the spend is locked in when you get the card. Getting 10x Skybonus points, on top of all the other perks the Private Jet card gives you, like instant Diamond Medallion status for you or for you to gift to whoever you want is very nice. Other than Delta gifting you DM status because of “who you are”, this is the only way a “normal” flyer can gift DM status to anyone (Choice Benefits only allows max Gold Medallion as a gift choice).

I wrote a post years ago about how someone who was spending a modestly large $17,000-ish a year could get this card and spend it ALL on Delta jets and never get on a PVT jet and enjoy all the program perks. But this was when the deposit was just $50,000. It is now $100,000 making it less of an attractive option for everyone other than the REALLY big spenders with Delta each year (you have two-ish years to spend the deposit btw).

On the plus side, if you happen to fall into this $34,000+ area per year of spend, I have been told by more than one source, that getting the PVT jet card all but assures you entrance to the Delta360 club and all the extra perks that come with that program when you fly. – René

  1. Is the Diamond Status good for the two years that you have to spend the 100 k or just the first year ? Thanks

  2. @Kazman – My understanding is two years and that should work as let’s say you get it in JAN15. You are getting status for the 2016 medallion year and basically just have the rest of 15 free.
