Construction of SFO Sky Club April 2014

Back in April 2014 when I blogged about the progress and location of the new Delta Sky Club we had no idea just how nice the new club would be compared to the old, dark location that was pre-security.

The new club is just past security right next door to gate 41

A warm welcome from Texas Yankee

You can get in with a number of AMEX cards or, if you are a Skyteam elite plus status and are on a coach or anyone on a business class international departing (or connecting) ticket, you can also get in free.

You enter at gate level and after check-in take the stairs or elevator up to the club level.

You are greeted by a large customer service desk and an open and bright feel to the club.

Newspapers are available right next to the service desk should you want them.

The modern and open feel from this club is really highlighted with the wall dividers that both welcome you into the club and divide the bar space.

This is a full feature bar with many complimentary items and even more for purchase including lite food items. I personally bristle against this type of money grab. Sky Clubs are not cheap to get into and then Delta charging more, compared to say the Centurion, is not acceptable to me. I would avoid these choices.

Having just said that, you next come to the main dining area and the open space part of the club that is basically a large “L” shaped room.

The food choices, while not as impressive as Atlanta’s or JFK’s buffet, are impressive compared to what Sky Clubs had to offer in the past. Take a look.

Enough choices to offer a lite meal, tasty snacks and healthy options as well.

Towards the back of the club is a work area that is not really separated from the rest of the space as in other Sky Clubs but there is a printer and shredder for your use.

There are also two showers available at this new club. Simply ask to be put on the list at customer service and they will notify you when it is available.

With only two showers available (Atlanta E & F have 8, Los Angeles has 4) be sure if you want to use one to get on the list as soon as you arrive.

This club truly is a huge improvement over the previous club and from what I have seen from other reviews the bright white club is even brighter during the day with impressive views of the airport. Also power ports are plentiful and this also is a nice upgrade over hunting for an outlet in the old one.

Perhaps the biggest plus of all is the location. Being able to clear security then go to the club affords you the stress free relaxation time the Sky Clubs can provide for you. It is very nice to just walk out and be right at all the Delta gates.

So is this now the place to go in SFO before your flight? No, I would say if you have a long layover, or a great amount of time before your flight, I will still recommend going to the SFO Centurion for a while. Then, transition to the Sky Club just before your flight if time allows. However if your connection is tight or you need help with ticket issues, the new location is perfect for that! – René

  1. Spot on Rene!

I was just there a few weeks ago during the daytime. The views were absolutely expansive and the space was amazing. The location of the service desk at the top of the stairs give so much more room at check in. Plus all of the seats have power around them that is easily accessible. Huge upgrade!!!

  2. Thanks for the in depth review. I look forward to my next trip through SFO so that I can enjoy “Skunky” beer in such a nice setting.

  3. nice space but the wine selection and food are poor===unless you $$$$buy the upgraded (not really) wine and snacks..the amex centurion is the winner but its in term 3and delta is term 1 and the terminals ARESTILL NOT CONNECTED IN SFO A BUMMER!!!!! ARCHAIC!!!!!!
