My name is Chris Carley and I’m the owner-editor-head writer of Eye of the Flyer.

I began traveling at an early age, visiting places I affectionally term “the usual suspects” (destinations many people visit): Orlando, Los Angeles, and Hawaii.

I spent several years working 60-hour weeks. My wife — who practically grew up on cruise ships and once interned in Europe —  persuaded me to spend less time at a desk and more time exploring the world.

While traveling can be very expensive and stressful, we learned it doesn’t have to be.

We dove head-first into the world of travel points and miles. We read blogs, attended meet-ups, traveled to points and miles seminars, and spent a lot of time literally learning on the fly.

Most of our trips are funded using airline, hotel, and credit card reward points. We also developed a fondness for airport and hotel lounges. (That’s what inspired the title “PointsLounge” for our first travel blog.)

Our respective families all live either in Delta hub cities or destinations Delta serves. Because we live in Los Angeles and Delta is the best airline choice for West Coast travelers, about 90% of our air travel is aboard Delta and SkyTeam flights. We’re both Delta Medallion elite status holders and our daughter was a SkyMiles member before we left the maternity ward! I’ve held every level of Delta status (except for Delta360).

Since joining the points and travel hobby in 2014, our travels have taken us to Japan, China, Mexico, England, the Dominican Republic, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, and about half of the United States.

We love helping people new to the points, miles, and travel hobby learn how to get started.

My work as a photo editor takes me around the country to different events: concerts, award shows, parties, and other interesting places. I’m also a voiceover artist with several audiobooks and a few commercials under my belt!

Prior to starting my own company, I served as William Shatner’s assistant for almost seven years. I produced two movies with Mr. Shatner (The Captains and Gonzo Ballet) as well as his annual charity event (the Hollywood Charity Horse Show).

Press information about René de Lambert:

René founded RenesPoints.com and has flown millions of miles with Delta, Northwest and other airlines and has been an elite Delta Medallion flyer for years. (The blog became Eye of the Flyer in June 2021) Eye of the Flyer often writes about Delta Air Lines and how, as a frequent, or not so frequent flyer, to maximize points, upgrades and benefits and to actually enjoy the travel experience. If you need an expert on the in’s & out’s and working’s of Delta, you have found the right editorial source.

Aviation blogger René has been featured and quoted & linked to in the major media as well as countless travel blogs and travel websites. Having earned & burned millions of frequent flyer points on airlines, hotels and cars, he helps travelers get the most for their points, especially the VERY hard to redeem Delta Air Lines points. Have a story about mileage runs? In 2013 René flew to Istanbul for 1.5 hours and flew home and started 2014 by collecting over 50,000 points on a 10 leg run to Hawaii!

Do you actually get all these
credit cards yourself?

You bet! There are lots of ways to earn miles, like (crazy as this sounds) flying and promotions like the SKYMALL deal where René picked up almost 1/2 million Delta points over the 3 promos they ran. But one of the top ways is by every 91+ days applying for some credit cards. Here are a few of my wife’s and my past and current cards!
